WATCH: Schumer Freaks Out Over Biden Impeachment, Ironically Labels Inquiry A ‘Witch Hunt’

(trendingpoliticsnews) – On Tuesday afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer did not hold back his thoughts on the impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden. Labeling the move as “absurd,” Schumer ironically described the inquiry as a “witch hunt,” echoing a term frequently used by former President Donald Trump during his own impeachment proceedings.

During his quick speech, Schumer said, “I think the impeachment inquiry is absurd. The American people want us to do something that will make their lives better, not go off on these chases and witch hunts.” Schumer’s comments come as a direct response to the growing momentum among Republicans to push for Joe Biden’s impeachment.

Schumer also expressed his sympathy for House Leader Kevin McCarthy, acknowledging the challenging position he finds himself in. “I have sympathy with Speaker McCarthy. He’s in a difficult position,” Schumer remarked. He further criticized those he perceives as being “way off the deep end,” accusing them of having no genuine interest in aiding the American people and being solely focused on their political agendas.

Schumer concluded his remarks with a call to action, emphasizing the Senate’s commitment to its duties despite the ongoing political drama. “We are not going to let it stop us here in the Senate from keeping the government open and working in a bipartisan way,” he affirmed.

McCarthy held a sudden press conference Tuesday morning where he announced the beginning of impeachment proceedings against Biden, an about-face move that aligns the Republican leader with conservatives in his conference who have been champing at the bit to strike back at Biden after years of investigating his alleged wrongdoings.

“I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. Over the past several months, House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct—a culture of corruption,” wrote McCarthy on X where he posted a short video clip of his remarks.

Later in the day, Matt Gaetz of Florida took aim at McCarthy, accusing him of failing to uphold promises made earlier this year. Gaetz’s remarks came amid growing tensions within the Republican Party over its direction and leadership.

Gaetz began by referencing the contest for House Speaker in January, stating, “Mr. Speaker, you are out of compliance with the agreement that allowed you to assume this role.” He went on to criticize McCarthy for not holding votes on term limits or balanced budgets and for not releasing the January 6th tapes in full. Gaetz also expressed his frustration over what he perceived as a lack of action against the “Biden crime family.”

He did not mince words, stating, “Joe Biden deserves impeachment for converting the vice presidency into an ATM machine for virtually his entire family.” He acknowledged McCarthy’s recent endorsement of an impeachment inquiry but argued that it was a mere “baby step” and that the House needs to move faster.
