(trendingpoliticsnews) – In a scathing letter addressed to President Joe Biden and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, Congressman Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey’s Second Congressional District lambasted the Biden administration for its “reckless” and “weak” border policies.
The Congressman, who switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party in 2019, expressed his “absolute opposition” to the proposal of relocating illegal migrants to the Atlantic City International Airport.
Van Drew pulled no punches in his critique, stating that South Jersey residents are already grappling with “record-setting inflation” due to the administration’s “reckless spending.”
During a visit to Fox News discussing the border crisis fallout, Van Drew went as far as calling the Biden administration the “worst in American history.”
In the letter, he argued that his constituents should not have to bear the costs of housing thousands of illegal migrants, a situation he attributes to the Biden administration’s lax border policies.
The Congressman also raised concerns about national security, pointing out that the Atlantic City International Airport serves as the operational base for the New Jersey Air National Guard’s 177th Fighter Wing. “This not only undermines national security efforts but also potentially compromises the vital missions carried out by our military personnel at the airport,” Van Drew wrote.
Van Drew highlighted the irony that even ‘sanctuary cities‘ like New York City, Washington D.C., and San Francisco are struggling to handle the influx of migrants. “Atlantic City and its resources are already stretched thin; we simply cannot afford the additional financial and public safety burdens,” he stated.
“To put it bluntly, it is time for your administration to take ownership and resolve the crisis it has perpetuated, rather than passing the buck to those who had no part in creating it,” Van Drew wrote, urging the administration to remove Atlantic City International Airport from consideration for housing migrants.
The letter from Van Drew shows what many have seen as a crisis of leadership under the Biden administration. His strong opposition to the proposed migrant relocation adds to the growing concerns for an administration that, in his words, is “the worst in history.”

Dear President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas:
As the representative of New Jersey’s Second Congressional District, I am expressing my absolute opposition to recent reports of relocating illegal migrants to the Atlantic City International Airport.’ The residents in South Jersey continue to struggle with record-setting inflation, a situation caused by the reckless spending under this administration. We should not have to bear the costs of housing thousands of illegal migrants who were allowed into our country by your administration’s weak border policies.
While House Republicans have consistently advocated for a secure border – most notably through our passage of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act earlier this year – the Biden Administration has chosen to neglect its responsibilities in protecting Americans and securing our southern border. You are now further risking our national security by attempting to house illegal migrants at an international airport, which also serves as the operational base for the New Jersey Air National Guard’s 177th Fighter Wing. This not only undermines national security efforts but also potentially compromises the vital missions carried out by our military personnel at the airport.
Your administration’s policies have created so much chaos that even so-called ‘sanctuary cities’ like New York City, Washington D.C., and San Francisco have struggled to handle the influx of migrants allowed into our country. Atlantic City and its resources are already stretched thin; we simply cannot afford the additional financial and public safety burdens that come with housing a large migrant population in communities that have not chosen to adopt these sanctuary city policies.
To put it bluntly, it is time for your administration to take ownership and resolve the crisis it has perpetuated, rather than passing the buck to those who had no part in creating it.
The ongoing migrant crisis in New York City, from which these migrants are potentially being moved from, underscores the shortcomings of your lax immigration policies and lack of consequences for illegally entering the United States. Shifting the responsibility to Atlantic City and South Jersey would not resolve this underlying issue; it would merely relocate it, to the detriment of my constituents.
It is inappropriate and unreasonable to expect us to bear the consequences of policy choices we did not make nor want. As such, we formally request that Atlantic City International Airport and any other federally owned facilities in our jurisdiction be removed from consideration for this initiative.
Sincerely,
Jeff Van Drew
Member of Congress
